Join Dr. Wendy Moy, Assistant Professor of Music/Co-Artistic Director, Dr. Jeremiah Selvey, Co-Artistic Director, and Chorosynthesis Singers in celebrating the release of their first double CD on the international label, Centaur Records. They will play selections from their new release, and the performers will share their experience with performing new music focused on themes of social consciousness.

Dr. Stephen Lancaster, Baritone and Head of Graduate Voice Program at the University of Notre Dame and Jill Brunelle, pianist from the Yale School of Music will present an evening of music on themes of togetherness. Pieces will include L’horizon chimérique by Gabriel Fauré, Gilgamesh Songs by J. Scott Brubacher, Liederkreis by Robert Schumann, and other American favorites.

Composer of Chorosynthesis Singers’ commissioned work and Artistic Director of Network for New Music Thomas Schuttenhelm will join us for a conversation around the following questions:
What does the commissioning process look like?
How does one write a specific work for a particular ensemble?
Additionally, Dr. Schuttenhelm will share the journey of composing Seven Living Words of the HIV Positive for Chorosynthesis Singers that will be performed in Evans Hall on April 13.

Wendy Moy, Director of Choral Activities & Co-Artistic Director, Chorosynthesis Singers
Guest artists Chorosynthesis Singers, guest soloist Stephen Lancaster, and the Connecticut College Choirs will collaborate in a concert that brings voice to the silenced, the under-represented members of society, the oppressed, and the stigmatized. This concert will feature music on themes of social justice, war, colonialism, and non-heteronormative love by Harold Arlen, Conrad Asman, Leonard Bernstein, Abbie Betinis, Tomás Olano, Kala Pierson, Stephen Schwartz, Michael Robert Smith, Keane Southard, Mari Esabel Valverde, and C. G. Walden. It will also include the East Coast Premiere of Seven Living Words of the HIV Positive by Thomas Schuttenhelm, commissioned by Chorosynthesis Singers.
